Fluorescent Lights

The Problem

Flourescent lights are one of the most commonly reported issues by autistic people. Older installations often emit a light which is blue tinted and flickers at 60 Hz. Some units will also be accompanied by a buzzing sound. Both of these can be uncomfortable for an autistic person with sensory sensitivities, especially because they are prevelant in schools and workplaces with few options for individual accomodations.

The Reasons

At the moment, it is not entirely clear why they are so problematic.

Solutions

Replacing existing lighting with orange tinted LED lights.
